The collection contains a copy of Cocke's appointment, 1850, as aide-de-camp to the Commander in Chief [of the Virginia Militia?] signed by Governor John B. Floyd. With this is a poem, 1848, entitled "Stanzas addressed to Philip St. George Cocke Esq. on entering his newly-erected mansion at Belmead, Powhatan" by Margaret Read Venable Cabell together with a transcript, n.d., by John Page Elliott.
